Super Soapbox Programme

Make a Day of it in Barrow Town Centre

Enjoy the Barrow Super Soapbox Challenge

The Barrow Super Soapbox Challenge event, sponsored by BAE Systems and organised by Barrow BID and the Super Soapbox Challenge Company.

Barrow in Furness is renowned for its engineering excellence and we felt that a Soapbox Challenge was the perfect way to showcase our talent and bring the local community together. As the Business Improvement District (BID), we wanted to organise an event that would have a huge positive impact on Barrow’s town centre and boost the local economy.

The main high street provides us with a perfect course for a soapbox event, offering a large enough slope to challenge the drivers and a safe pedestrianised area to stage the event. The construction of a two-storey launch ramp should add to the viewing spectacle and get the carts up to speed before they take on the town centre course.

As well as the Soapbox racing, Taylor’s Funfair will also be attending the Soapbox event with rides and attractions located in Fell St Car Park and Scott Street throughout the day and into the evening.

The consumption of alcohol is permitted in town centre streets throughout the day, but glass is prohibited, so we ask that you don’t bring glasses or bottles outside. Alcohol is also prohibited within the family funfair areas and we ask that alcohol is not taken into these areas.

Enjoy your day and we hope to see you at the next Barrow BID event, when the Festival of Transport comes to Barrow town centre on Saturday 20th July or at next year’s Super Soapbox Challenge, which will take place again on the last Saturday in June 2020.
