Barrow in Furness is ranked no.1 in England for the diversity of its natural heritage and with 60km of coastline, Barrow is a fantastic place to explore. Piel Island, which is reached by ferry and has a pub where the landlord is king of the island, South Walney Nature Reserve with the only Grey Seal colony in Cumbria or Roanhead with its expansive sandy beaches and Natterjack Toads are all worth a visit and are only 10 minutes from the hotel.
Right on our back doorstep is the magnificent Furness Abbey which sits in the Vale of Deadly Nightshade and was built in the 11th century. Destroyed in the 16th Century by Henry VIII, the Abbey ruins still stand proud and are a beautiful place to take a walk or enjoy a picnic.
