This beautiful Victorian building has been refurbished and renovated over the past decade to offer contemporary accommodation, a great bar and amazing food. Our famous breakfast is a treat for all those who stay at our hotel in Barrow in Furness on the edge of the Lake District.
In 2006 Lancaster Brewery purchased the hotel in Barrow in Furness and renovations began. The Duke of Edinburgh is now one of Barrow’s premier town centre hotels offering 51 luxury en-suite rooms, a cask ale bar, restaurant and function room.
Ideally located in the town centre, just two minutes walk from the train station and with its own private car park, the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel is on the edge of the Lake District and offers the ideal base for guests visiting on leisure or business. It’s a great place to stay in Cumbria, with many of our residents choosing to stay with us over Lake District hotels because they get the same quality only at a portion of the price.
OUR HOTEL ROOMS

Every single one of our beautifully appointed rooms is uniquely designed and offers both comfort and luxury en-suite accommodation. This includes our incredible new bedrooms, converted in the attic space of the building that adjoins our hotel, that provide spacious, contemporary decor in luxury surroundings.
The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel offers three room options:
- STANDARD rooms are compact in design, but offer comfortable surroundings with super king size beds.
- SUPERIOR rooms provide more space and often include a larger sofa and extra luxuries.
- EXECUTIVE ROOMS are our most beautiful bedrooms. Some include separate living rooms, lots of casual seating and extra large bathrooms. Many of EXECUTIVE bedrooms are booked up weeks in advance, as our numerous repeat visitors have their personal favourites.
All rooms feature:

Some of our rooms also offer air conditioning and we also have one family room with two bedrooms (one double plus two singles).
