STAY SAFE

The best way you can continue to support local shops, is by being mindful of social distancing and wearing a mask in enclosed spaces. Wash your hands often using soap and water and dry them thoroughly, and where available, use hand-sanitiser as you enter and leave shops. Our local shops always look forward to welcoming responsible shoppers so be sure to drop-in soon – and above all, enjoy your visit and stay safe!

FOOD & DRINK

Whatever time you are visiting the town, there is always a great choice of places to eat and drink. Barrow has a thriving café culture where you can pick up a quality coffee or a bite to eat.

In the evening, Barrow hosts a diverse range of bars and restaurants serving food and drinks from around the World.

PARKING

Many town centre streets have parking bays for a one hour stay, but make sure you check the bay signs as they can range from 10 minute to 2 hour parking.

The local council host several town centre car parks which take cash payments or use a parking app. Whittaker Street car park is FREE after 3pm on all days courtesy of Barrow BID. All council car parks are FREE on a Sunday and bank holidays.

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING

With a wide range of National and Independent Shops and the largest indoor market in Cumbria, Barrow is a great place to find the perfect Christmas gift. The town provides a real festive atmosphere with new Christmas Lights, plus live music and entertainment on weekends in the run up to Christmas Day.

HERITAGE BUILDINGS

Barrow’s town centre grew to prominence in the mid 19th Century with the discovery of large iron ore deposits and the completion of the Furness Railway Line which brought people in and took materials out of the area.

The town centre boasts a number of historical buildings which are worth a visit including the impressive Town Hall, Nan Tait Centre and Duke of Edinburgh Hotel. These are more buildings can be found on the town centre heritage trail.
