When the sun is shining there is nothing better than visiting part of Barrow’s 60km of coastline.

From sandy beaches to areas of natural beauty, Barrow has a diverse coastline to explore.

To discover the beauty of Barrow’s coastline follow one of the beautiful cycling trails or walking trails, which you can find on this website. The Walney Coastal Path is 16 miles long and not only offers diverse coastal landscapes, but also provides some of the most stunning sunset views in the UK.

Rated as No.1 in England for natural assets, Barrow is a great place to find a range of fauna and flora. Sandscale Haws is an outstanding dune habitat supporting a wealth of wildlife and has magnificent panoramic views across the Duddon Estuary. The sandy beach and dunes are great for play and also support a rich natural habitat. A significant area for Natterjack Toads, Sandscale Haws supports one fifth of the national population of the rare amphibian.

South Walney Nature Reserve offers stunning views across Morecambe bay. This shingle island reserve is full of interest and as well as being a fantastic place for bird watching, it is also home to the only grey seal colony in Cumbria.

Take a trip across the Roa Island causeway and catch a ferry across to Piel Island where you will find a castle and a pub, where the landlord is crowned as ‘King of Piel’.
